I can't save bookmarks into folders. Clicking on the star icon does nothing. The window disappears and the page goes to Recently Bookmarked.

Hi, to bookmark a page: When you click on the star, the bookmark, by default, will go into Other Bookmarks (prior to v48 known as Unsorted Bookmarks); however if you wish it to go to a different destination, keep your mouse pointer over the dialog box to prevent it from disappearing, then use the upper, downward pointing arrow on the far right, to select a destination > Done.

Also, there is an option for bookmarks to save automatically in the dropdown: You can either click the blue star as if to edit, then select the 'Show editor when saving' box. Or, type about:config into the address bar, press Enter, accept the warning, click Show All, then scroll down the alphabetical list to browser.bookmarks.editDialog.showForNewBookmarks and if it is False, double click it to change it to True.

The bookmark star is there but doesn't work...will not turn blue. I have tried several suggestions: 1) refresh, 2) deleting xulstore.json 3) making sure "browser.bookmarks.editDialog.showForNewBookmarks" is marked "true". The blue star used to work, but doesn't work now. I don't know what changed. Please help!

Open the 3-bar menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information, then near the bottom look for Places Database and click on Verify Integrity. Restart Firefox afterwards - Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues. If that doesn't help, you may have a corrupt places.sqlite file in your Profile. For that, and other things to check, please see - Can't add, change or save bookmarks - How to fix.

SUGGESTED FIX:

Open the 3-bar menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information, then near the bottom look for Places Database and click on Verify Integrity. Restart Firefox afterwards - Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues. If that doesn't help, you may have a corrupt places.sqlite file in your Profile. For that, and other things to check, please see - Can't add, change or save bookmarks - How to fix.

Places Database Integrity

> Task: checkIntegrity - Unable to check places.sqlite integrity: Error: Error(s) encountered during statement execution: database disk image is malformed > Task: invalidateCaches - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: checkCoherence - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: expire - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: originFrecencyStats - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: vacuum - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: stats

I tried the "Verify Integrity" solution...did not work. I "refreshed" instead of "restarted" ...is there a difference? If so, how do I restart? I've tried, per my prior post, the suggestions under "Can't add, change or save bookmarks - How to fix"...with no luck. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
