I have long time account. My wife took over my computer and made it hers. I want to move my old (hers now) account to her email, while releasing my email so that I can start another profile on a different computer with MY email. I added her email as a secondary, made it the default, then deleted my email from the profile. then I went over to my computer, tried to sign in with my email, but it's telling me i need to sign in with the Primary email address. so it didn't release my email. and i can't create a new account with my email address. i'm a few hours into searching for an answer and would appreciate some help. thank you

Delete the signedInUser.json file in the Firefox profile folder and delete the Weave folder (Sync was formerly named Weave) with Firefox closed.

Remove an existing chrome://FirefoxAccounts entry in the Firefox Password Manager.

If that isn't enough then delete the prefs.js files to reset all prefs and maybe also delete the compatibility.ini file to reinitialize the profile.

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).

Try to create a new profile to see if that allows to reuse the email address. See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
