I just installed Thunderbird 91.2 on Ubuntu 18.04 via snap packages.

I'm going through the setup wizard to connect with my gmail account. the Auth popup shows up, I enter my password, confirm I want Thunderbird to access my gmail account, I get a "Secure connection failed". There is a "Or you can add an exception" link but nothing happens when I click on it. I tried 2 different gmail accounts, both fail. I have the exact same issue with an install from a tag archive on another Ubuntu 18.04.

What can I do to make it work? Thanks.

Basically my solution was this:

1. Turn on "Allow insecure apps" in your gmail account settings on the web. 2. Change "OAuth2" to "Normal Password"

This way, instead of popping up that OAuth login which leads to "Secure Connection Failed", it just asks for the password like the old days.

Now, this doesn't seem like a very good solution. This is just bypassing OAuth. It would be better if there were a solution to get Gmail OAuth working in Thundebird again.
