a pop up to enable a video took out my computer entirely requiring a reinstall and now it wont let me do any m.soft updates or start without rebooting using F12

the computer hung and eventually I had to shut it down. on restarting it would get to the XP windows window then shut down I could not restart so loaded the entire software I still could not start as the same going to sleep system so pressed F12 and then rebooted from soft ware Symantech have been thro it but say nothing is wrong (except i cant start without using F12 I have no ability to get windows update or download something like Spybot search and destroy All my reloading capacity ( EG norton or memeo is disabled.) I just tried to install the trouble shooter below and yr site says its not allowed and an untrusted software....maybe u can see what i mean.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

SCAN WITH ALL PROGRAMS.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
