That is Flash content on the hbo.com web page.
Make sure that the Flash plugin is enabled (look for the Lego bock icon on the location bar).
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
- Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
- Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
- check for updates for your graphics drive drivers
https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration - disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
- disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
See also:
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

I've had troubles, too. I got a message along the lines that you seem to be using Flash 14, update to Flash 10 and above.
When I tried again I only got the black screen and the same via Opera View and Chrome View but when I went back to Firefox, still active, it had opened correctly.
Just maybe there is a problem with the site and you need to be very patient.
It is a Flash object of over 4 MB, so may take some time to load and initialize.

With the last Firefox upgrade, some plugins are no longer enabled until you enable it.
Open the Add-ons Manager. Press the <Alt> or <F10> key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;
Windows; Tools Linux; Edit Mac; application name
Then Add-ons.
Hot key; <Control> (Mac: <Command>) <Shift> A)
On the left side of the page, select Plugins.
BTW; At the top right is a link to check your plugins.
