How do I stop repeated annoying reminders to upgrade Windows Internet Explorer

I see "do you want to upgrade to latest version of internet explore" or words to that effect several times a session in a pop-up window. How do I stop it? Without going back to Win IE of course.

OK I found it elsewhere

       Press the "Windows" key.
       2
       Click "All Programs" and "Windows Update."
       3
       Select "Change Settings" in the left panel.
       4
       Click the drop-down box beneath the "Important updates" section. Select the "Never check for updates" option. Select to clear the "Recommended update," "Microsoft Update" and "Software notifications" check-boxes. Click "OK."
