Hello. I just had a notification that an important update to Thunderbird was available and should be installed which I did, version 52.3.0. Now my Lightning calendar has gone with no way of getting it back. Looking on the add-ons website there is no working calendar for this version. I don't want to install the older version and corrupt my system. Looking at various instructions it says to backup an ICS file in my profile, which I can't find by doing a search for. I have a backup of the profile folder from a few weeks ago but can't afford to lose my calendar data or emails. What do you advise please. Many thanks. Huw.

Did you update Thunderbird from an older version that required the Calendar/Lightning Add-on to be installed as an extension (which is no longer true, hence you won’t find it)? And is the calendar itself gone, or the entire Lightning add-on?

  • In the Add-ons Manager, select the Lightning extension and click Remove, then restart Thunderbird.
  • In the Add-ons Manager again, select the Lightning extension and click Enable, then restart Thunderbird again.

Does this bring things back?

Hi Tonnes. Many thanks for your reply. I updated from a recent version, not sure which one but anyway the add-on was not coming up as being present so I have reinstalled the add-on and it has now restored my calendar with the appointments still in it. My concern over this was a few comments in the forums suggesting that installing the add-on to a newer vrsion could corrupt it all but I am glad to say that it has worked. Again, thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply. Best regards Huw.
