When i select a file in Windows 10, i can right click the file and 'copy' it to a email-address. It opens Thunderbird and attached the selected file as attachment. That's great!

But it also sets a default body message and subject. How can i change those?

I've tried:

find a setting in Windows 10
   find a setting in Thunderbird
checked content of send to link
   checked Windows register
   searched internet

Found the explanation for this issue here: https://www.slipstick.com/outlook/create-a-custom-send-to-shortcut/

It's a dll file that inserts this text, apparently.

Solution is this:

  • enter command: %appdata%\microsoft\windows\sendto
  • create new shortcut to thunderbird, f.e. "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe"

Now when I use this shortcut, there is no additional text!

I think it shouldn't be hard to add arguments to create a default title / message, if somebody needs it.

That bit of lunacy is all Microsoft, and according to my google searches can not be changed and has been around since windows XP.

Whomever though the meaningless dribble like that below would be of any use to real people is something of a mystery to me, but it is fairly typical of large companies these days.

Your message is ready to be sent with the following file or link attachments:

Note: To protect against computer viruses, email programs may prevent you from sending or receiving certain types of file attachments. Check your email security settings to determine how attachments are handled.
