Hello,

I would like to report a strange problem that I am having with the Windows Live Help website when using Firefox, I did not have this problem until recently, the website was working fine in older versions of Firefox and Firefox 8.

I was using Firefox 8 without any problems with the website but recently the website started constantly refreshing trying to Read Support.Microsoft.com and WindowsLiveHelp.com, making the page un-useable.

I tried running Firefox in Safe Mode, but that did not work.

I updated Firefox to 8.01, but that did not work.

I updated to Firefox 9, but that did not work.

I uninstalled Firefox and installed it, but that did not work.

I ran CCleaner, but that did not work.

Most or all of my software is up-to-date, and my computer is malware free according to AVG Free, Emsisoft Anti-Malware Free, Hitman Pro Free, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free.

I am guessing that something changed with the website itself maybe, but the Microsoft Team suggest that I post this issue here.

My Post there is here:

A similar problem happened in Windows Live Mail (Web) after Microsoft did an update, but after a day the problem stopped, and several days later a similar and worse problem is now happening with their Windows Live Help website with Firefox; but this problem is not happening in IE9.

I have Firefox set to clear all temporary data when it exits and I am using Norton DNS.

Thanks, -John Jr :)

Hi!

I cannot replicate it. Have you tried to use the Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to make sure that it's not related to any add-on that you may have installed?

Yes, I tried Safe Mode with 8.0 and 9.0, but it still happens.

I think that the update Microsoft did to some of their services some how messed up something with my account or something.

Try a new Firefox Profile and see how it is.

Thanks, I tried that too, but it still does the same thing.

Besides trying to Read those two other websites I mentioned, the page also says that it is trying to read M.WebTrends.Com; so Firefox is having problems reading those three things it seems, and it still constantly Refreshes trying to read those three things making the page un-useable.

This is strange, I still suspect a problem on Microsoft's side.

Even turning off Third Party Cookies does not work.

I tried uninstalling Firefox again, set to remove everything, and I re-installed 9.0 without add-ons; but it still does not work with that page.

The only programs that I have running are AVG 2012 Free, Secunia PSI Free, Sandboxie Free (I have tried Firefox Sandboxed and Not Sandboxed, with the same problem), and I use Norton DNS.

I use Windows 7 32-Bit fully up-to-date, and I keep all or most of my software up-to-date; and I use free and/or open source software for mostly everything.

I only have this problem with this Microsoft website at this time, and a similar problem with the Windows Live Mail (Web) for a day after Microsoft updated Windows Live Mail (Web).

I tried the website on another computer in Firefox, and I have the same problem; even when I am not logged into my Windows Live Account. :D

The website that is having the problem is:

I tried Comodo DNS instead of Norton DNS, and I still have the problem.

I disabled AVG LinkScanner, but I still have the problem.

I un-installed Sandboxie Free, but I still have the problem.

There seem to be a bug. I reported it https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=712911

I find that when I'm logged into MSN / hotmail etc when using Firefox or Camino (both Mozilla I think), keyboard shortcuts do not work in Photoshop or Illustrator. When logged into MSN / hotmail etc using Safari, all Adobe keyboard shortcuts work fine. There is some incompatibility between Mozilla stuff and whatever it is that refreshes things in microsoft websites, maybe.

Thank you Ibai, hopefully they can fix it. :)

Interesting, thank you for sharing that WordWorm, hopefully they can fix that too. :)

That is a problem with a script on that page that tries to go to a non-existing uppercase anchor (the lowercase version is there) and keeps retrying that.

Thanks Cor-El, that sounds like it makes sense to me, I suspected that there was something on their website causing the problem possibly; I will once again try to get them to check it out if possible, here is my post on their forum:
