I had the exact same thing . I changed the setting to automatically detect proxy settings and then it worked . Had to do the same thing for internet explorer . I think the firefox update changed them ? I was using firefox then I updated then it wouldn't connect . Verizon tech had me change to auto detect then all was fine.

Do you see the Firefox window or crash it before?

Try to disable iMacros.

If you are using a Firewall, you may need to delete the permissions for Firefox in your firewall, let your firewall redetect the new version of Firefox, and give Firefox the proper permissions to access the internet.

I think the update is screwing with settings. After installing, the same happened to me (could not connect to any site). Solved it by going to Tools->Options->Advanced, choosing "Network" and then clicking on the "Settings" button. In the window that opened up, I selected "No Proxy" (it was on "Use system proxy"). After that it was fine for me.

I have the same problem except I am using Vista with all of the updates. I used Siphon's solution and I am now working fine.

My thanks to everyone for your suggestions! Siphon's situation was closest to mine, but even changing my non-existent proxy setting did not help.

I believe the automatic Firefox update was flawed, since Firefox changed my connection settings to using a proxy. I never used a proxy, because I have a DSL Internet connection (it is always online) so I use a router to safeguard my home network.

I use Norton 360 to manage my firewall traffic -- yesterday I updated it to version 4 . After Firefox would not connect and this corrected my Firefox connection problem.

Yes changing the proxy settings works...but I have to do it every time that I restart. There does not seem to be a way to save it.
