Why is firefox redirecting me from the page I click on to another page? Is there a new virus? I click on facebook and get sent to Groupon, actually type in twitter and get sent to Freshdeals.com. Why did this start happening today?

Sounds like you have a browser hijacker installed. Please do the following.

  1. In the location bar where you normally type in a web address, type about:config and hit Enter.

  2. In the filter at the top, type: keyword.URL

  3. Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q= and then click OK.

  4. Close the tab

The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.

To reset your home page, do the following.

  • Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.

  • Click the Firefox button, go to Options | Options | General.

  • Make sure it says "Show My Homepage" in the first dropdown menu.

  • Click the button called "Use Current Pages" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.

Also, download the free version of Malwarebytes from here and do a full system scan to eliminate malware as the culprit if the above steps don't resolve the problem for you: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

Last but not least, consider upgrading to Firefox 5.0. The version you have installed at the moment is vulnerable to certain exploits. See the following article: http://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html

I think you can try TDSS killer which is a free software to fix the browser redirection problems.

If TDSS won't help, you can try these steps: http://blog.teesupport.com/tdsskiller-wont-run-how-to-remove-google-redirect-virus-if-tdsskiller-wont-run/

Good luck!
