Around the time that v3.6.4 was released, I began to notice a strange folder appeared in my system root directory, named VritualRoot. This didn't have much in it at first; but, on 7/11/2010, it acquired a subfolder named Firefox, and its profile subfolders, for 2 user accounts all the way down. The KB and a search didn't turn up anything. This is a Windows XP SP3 machine, with 2 GB DDR2 PC-4200 RAM and 135 GB free on system partition, Intel P4-519J 3 GHz. It is not directly Firefox causing a problem (except that I cannot get news clips to play on video.yahoo.com, but that is probably not elated to VritualRoot folder), but because the folder is full of Firefox "stuff," I thought that one of you all might have something to say on this.

All helpfully intended suggestions will be appreciated!

do you have comodo internet security or firewall installed?

Most probably you have installed Comodo Antivirus in one of its recent releases. It automatically creates a folder named "VritualRoot" (notice the typo! according to their support forum it's intentional!) on your C:\ drive, which is used to run applications in a secured sandbox environment.
