Sometimes my computer crashes than restarts, but it comes back to the screensaver and doesn't put up the desktop. I don't have anything to bring up the desktop and bottom bar so I have to shut it down and start over. This is a real pain.

Chosen solution

Open the Task Manager (Shift+Ctrl+ESC). Check in the Process tab if you see the Explorer.exe process and if present select End Process to kill the current Explorer process. Start a new explorer.exe process via "File > New Task" to get the desktop and Taskbar back.
