Could you experiment with the following setting and see whether it is the reason for the change:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste signon and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the signon.includeOtherSubdomainsInLookup preference to switch the value from true to false

It's because they are both for the same domain name. The difference is that one is for a specific subdomain and the other is for the main domain.

You can easily exclude subdomains from the drop-down list by setting the signon.includeOtherSubdomainsInLookup to false using the Configuration Editor for Firefox (about:config page).

Oooh this is good to find. I have quite a number of subdomains under one domain and it has gotten nuts after that update.

It would be really great if this could apply to only certain subdomains. E.g. list of domains to show logins for subdomains. If that's done, it should be able to be chosen whether that list applies to showing or hiding. That is, choose whether it's a whitelist or blacklist domains to show logins for other subdomains within it.

I have tried this. Closed my browser and rebooted the computer and this is still an issue for me on subfolders and subdomains on websites I need to edit. And when I type in what I know to be the correct password on these sites, it's telling me it's incorrect. How can I fix this? I am getting a list of potential user ids on sites that clearly should not even be associated with them.

Does the suggestion list look like this -- the key icon indicates a saved login:

If the suggestions do not have a key, they probably are form history entries. If you need to clear form history entries, see: Control whether Firefox automatically fills in forms.

Yes it does and some sites have 5 or 6 of those and they shouldn't be associated with those sites at all.

To turn off the other websites, see the solution to this thread.

If the problem is that you have multiple unrelated websites on the same host, Firefox's built-in password manager doesn't distinguish those. If you need to restrict the list based on the path following the host name, you should consider using a third party password manager instead.

Well, let's clear up exactly what is happening.

After the settings change, you should no longer see different host names on the drop-down. They should all say "From this website". Is that part working?

If they are subfolders like:

• www.example.com/alice
• www.example.com/bob

you will see both because the host name is the same.

If they are subdomains like:

• www.example.com
• dev.example.com

then the setting change should limit the drop-down to showing the matching host name.

It's giving me users in the dropdown that never existed in any of these websites.

Hmm, no idea how that happened. Can you delete those logins? See: Edit or delete a login with the Firefox Password Manager. If so, do they come back?
