Since 4-5days, Firefox just freeze for a few sec (from 5 to 20 ~ ) without crashing or something. I just can't do a thing for a few sec and everything goes back to normal.

Now it's quite frustrating :/

i don't use too much add-on (Adblock, Exif viewer and that's it)

This could be a problem with one of your settings. Does it still happen in Safe Mode?

No :| Still freeze :/

What if you run in safe mode (don't make changes). Safe mode also turns of Hardware Acceleration, which is a common cause of problems.

Same in safe mode, that why I tried to reset all my settings.

Here I tried to uninstall/install and backup pass|bookmarks|history with Sync.

I'll see but seems to work fine ATM, so I still don't know why Firefox did this, but a clean install can't hurt :p

In a way I am glad I am not the only one having the problem. I tried everything mentioned here and in system/window 7/anti virus/malwares/Java troubleshooting. Mozilla Firefox wll have have to come out with a solution or we'll switch to another browser for good. I am using IE for now and all is fine.

uninstall & re-install solved my problem.

Maybe becaus of Java, i noticed that the 'java console' thingy was tagged as 'incompatible with Firefox 6.0.2' but after the reinstall Java was working fine.

Don't know why :p

(it might be something else but it's the only thing who changed)

Oh no, i switch Firefox language too. It was in French (my native language), i did install the English version this time.

I don't know if it can help you gcmartin :/

And thank you for trying to solve my problem Matt2 :-)

I have this issue all the time. FF 9.x/Ubuntu freezes for a few seconds every once in a while. It seems related to networking operations, e.g. fetching something from a slow server or perhaps DNS resolution. UI freezes, the turning circle thingy stops, Ubuntu marks it as 'unresponsive'. Then, a few seconds later, everything comes back to life.

This happens in safe-mode too. Can you resolve this please?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

It happens on a new profile as well as in safe-mode. strace seems to show that Firefox was stuck on futex() call for 28 seconds and then did a lot of madvise() calls. The status line showed as if it was reading information from the site in question http://forums.nasioc.com . This is not limited to this site, only an example. I suspect this has to do with network library access, or perhaps proxy operations.

Could you address this problem?

I have this problem on Linux too (both Ubuntu and Debian) so it isn't OS-specific. It eats one of CPU (100% CPU load) at that time. And that is still present in Firefox 11. Please, fix it at last, not be such ignorant!
