The send function is inoperative (gray color) when I am originating an e-mail, but is functional (black) when replying. Uninstalling antivirus or changing from Bitdefender to Norton doesn't fix the problem. I uninstalled Thunderbird and reinstalled. The send function worked with a new e-mail. But once I restored my profile, the problem returned. Using a 4 year old profile still produced the problem.

Is the result the same in safe mode? Hold Shift when you launch TB. Some add-ons and themes break the composition process or layout.

I have the same problem with a grey send button not working. If I save to draft and then open the email it will send. This problem happened a little while ago and then seemed to clear, but has now come back. I use a Mac, with latest updates. Hopefully a non too technical solution can be found..
