FF keeps "Force Closing" itself when not open saying that the server isn't responding - does this every 5mins
FF Keeps crashing when open, always tries to send crash report.
FF also pushes notifications that the "App FF has closed due to an error communicating with the server, etc" This happens even when 3g and Wifi are enabled and working. Happens every five mins or so.
Chosen solution
It's been about 24hours since I uninstalled, re-installed and then synced up with my other computers. Haven't seen the error message or any Force closes since. Will let you know if anything happens but it seems to be resolved now. Thanks to all of you for your time and help with this!

Hi,
I'm sorry you are having this problem, if you are able, can you go to about:crashes in the URL bar and reply back with the crash report ID? Also, can you give me the make of your phone, so I can be sure of it when I report the issue?
Thank you, Michelle
Latest crash report ID is: bp-34ea047c-e4f4-4d6c-a571-4d5dc2120726
Phone is a Motorola Droid2 Global, but you'll see that info in the report.
Thanks very much for the info and ID, I'm checking with QA team now.
Hi,
QA thinks this crash signature is related to sync and running out of memory. Are you syncing bookmarks and history to your phone?
Thanks, Michelle
Not 100% sure but I'd be willing to say yes. How can I check and what is recommended to 1.) stop the app from crashing when using it and 2.) stop the background "Force Quits" — when the app is not open (but running in the background) I will receive push notifications that the "App FF had to Force Close"
Let me know what settings I should look at, thanks!
muzzle: are you able to follow the instructions here:
http://160.twinql.com/how-to-file-a-good-android-sync-bug
and get a log? You can send it to me directly.
Hi,
You can check if you are syncing by going into the menu and tap More -> Settings (on the hardware menu or in the upper right on ICS). Then tap Sync, you will have a Firefox Sync listed under account settings if it is set up. Let me know.
You can avoid the force quits by quitting Firefox instead of leaving it running in the background. Go into the menu -> More -> Quit to do so.
Thanks, Michelle
Sync just takes me to the "Battery & Data Manager" > Data Delivery, under which: Data Enabled and Background Data are checked.
I use Advanced Task Killer to close running but not open programs and I'm not 100% about this, but I'm almost sure that the Force close msg pops-up even after I've closed out of FF using Advanced Task Killer.
When I quit FF, it brings up the Crash report/ Restart dialogue.
The force quits you're seeing in the background are Sync running out of memory. It's not an application in the usual sense; Android controls when it runs.
How much free memory do you have on the device?
Available space for Application Storage is listed at: 5.79GB. Is that the same as memory in this case? If not, where should I look for that info?
Settings > Manage applications > Running. You should see at the bottom something like "232MB used... 123MB free".
I'm seeing: 320MB used / 50MB free
The force close operation that I keep receiving is: "Firefox must close process org.mozilla ".. etc. etc.
50MB free is pretty low. Do you also see regular "loading" screens when you switch between apps? My phone is pretty much unusable once that dips below 100MB.
Understandable. Right after I use the "Advanced Task Killer" — the memory jumps to about 180MB available.
I haven't seen the "Firefox must close process org.mozilla "... error while the Memory is that high, is it confirmed that the force close org.mozilla error only occurs when there is not enough Memory? Let me know if there are any other possibilities? thanks!!
I'm still receiving the "Firefox must close process org.mozilla " quite frequently. What options do we have to stop this?
Hi,
Thanks for writing back again, I didn't want to jump in while you were working with rnewman.
After speaking with my Sync support lead, we think you should uninstall the Firefox app and re-install it. If you had installed Firefox Beta or any other version at some point in the past, please uninstall those versions of Firefox also and then re-install Firefox for Android.
This will give you a clean profile to start with and hopefully stop the crashing and annoying messages.
Thanks for your patience! -Michelle
