Thunderbird is loading endlessly when opened without receiving any messages

more options

Since three days I cannot receive any messages on Thunderbird although it is possible via the webpage of my email-accounts. When I open Thunderbird, it shows the small circle in the top bar indicating that it is loading, but nothing happens. When it is open, it consumes a lot of my CPU (about 70%) but even keeping it open for multiple hours doesn't change anything. Every time I close Thunderbird it crashes instead of normally closing. When this happens, the "Submit a bug report?" window is displayed.

I'm on a Ubuntu 18.04 wit Thunderbird 52.9.1 (64 bits). I already started in safe-mode and deleted the lock and .parentlock files. I didn't change any configuration of Thunderbird recently.

Any help would be much appreciated!

First try to exit the thunderbird program. Disable all add-ons for thunderbird. see if you have a recent version of Tunderbird. Is youre computer running hot?

see if your background processes are not too high?

First try to close and reinstall the program.

Use and install a Anti-Virus program.
