Firefox Not Recognizing Updated Flash Player

more options

Newest Flash Player Version: 32.0.0.114

I just updated Flash Player in Firefox, Opera, and IE.

When I go to the Flash website to check that the latest update is installed, Opera and IE recognize Flash 32.0.0.114 but Firefox only shows 32.0.0.

I went back to the Flash website and re-installed Flash using Firefox but it still shows as 32.0.0.

Up until now, Firefox had always displayed the latest Flash Player version.

Why is this time different?

Hello Buddy2014,

Adobe Flash Player is installed on your system.

In Firefox Adobe Flash Player is shown as Shockwave Flash - the latest version is shown as Shockwave Flash 32.0.r0

3-bar menu (or Tools) => Add-ons => plugins

Your system details show that your Flash is up to date .....

McCoy: 1. Since I installed the new Flash version (32.0.r0) using Firefox twice (thinking there was a glitch), did two copies install or did the latest copy install over the previous install?

According to your system details only the latest version is installed (the earlier version is updated). It's best to always set Adobe Flash to update automatically : Windows Control Panel => click on Flash, which will open Flash Players Settings Manager => Updates tab.

2. Why do Opera and IE shows the actual Flash 32.0.0.114 version but Firefox only shows 32.0.r0?

McCoy: To be clear about Q1: Since I installed the new Flash version 32.0.0.114 'TWICE' using Firefox (thinking there was a glitch the first time 32.0.0.114 was installed), did two copies of 32.0.0.114 install or did the latest 32.0.0.114 updateover the previous 32.0.0.114 update?

It updated over the previous version - if it hadn't, your system details would show two versions. It will always do that when you have it set to update automatically (that will save you the trouble having to do it , and that way you'll never run an outdated version, which can cause problems).

If you don't want Flash Player to update automatically - that is completely up to you of course.

As for your second question : I've been searching for an answer, to no avail .....

'Can't find it here :

https://enableflashplayer.com/

Nor here :

I'm tempted to say "What's in a name" ....

Make sure Firefox is closed before install Flash Player Plugin

Type about:plugins in the Location (address) bar to both have Firefox scan for current NPAPI Plugins or this case the only NPAPI Plugin allowed to run now days, Flash Player. It will also show the exact version of Flash that your Firefox is making use of, though it will be called by old name of Shockwave Flash.

IE uses a ActiveX version of Flash Plugin and Opera uses a Pepper (PPAPI) version of Flash Plugin. So they are not the same.

I use the about:plugins trick when I setup a new Flash Plugin version and Firefox and or SeaMonkey was still running.

Since my thread is unclear, I have reworded it clearer:

I just updated Flash Player to 32.0.0.114 in Firefox, Opera, and IE.

1. When I go to the Flash website using Opera and IE to check that the latest update is installed, both browsers recognize Flash 32.0.0.114 but Firefox only shows 32.0.r0-Why doesn't Firefox recognize it as the specific version?

2. After installing Flash in Firefox the first time and noticing that Firefox recognizes it as 32.0.r0, I figured it was a glitch so I installed 32.0.0.114 AGAIN in Firefox and it was again recognized as 32.0.r0 so obviously that is how Firefox recognizes it.

Did installing the SAME 32.0.0.114 update a SECOND time copy OVER the original 32.0.0.114 update or would two copies have been installed?

I checked Tools->Addons->Plugins and it only shows 32.0.r0 ONCE.

About your concern whether or not Flash is installed twice : Like I mentioned before : if it had, it would show twice in Add-ons => Plugins, where it is displayed as Shockwave Flash.

As for the different names : Maybe this thread wil shed some light on it (especially James' last post) : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1037000

No one knows why Firefox recognizes a new Flash version generally as 32.0.r0 whereas Opera and IE recognize a new Flash version specifically as 32.0.0.114?

As I said earlier type about:plugins in the Location (address) bar.

This will both scan for new Flash Plugin version if installed while Firefox was still running and also show you the full exact version of the Flash Plugin Firefox is using on your system.

Thanks James:

This response of yours was clearer than the first reply.

Issue resolved.

Hmm, I can't find the URL of the Adobe site in this message. I usually suggest the following page:

https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html

There is a different appearance before and after activating the Flash plugin on that page. Attached screenshots 1 and 2 illustrate the differences, including in the version number.

More info on activation: Why do I have to click to activate plugins?
