I've read the questions and responses about a similar problem happening for other Thunderbird users. This problem seems to have started when Google asked me to sign in after an update. Now Google Calendar will sometimes show in Thunderbird but most of the time it doesn't. I use Google calendar for all my events because that's what's on my phone. I can't seem to pick a reason why it works sometimes and other times not. Any clues? TIA

Hi,

It would help if we could have some information about what version of Thunderbird you are using, and the versions of the Lightning, and, Provider for Google Calendar add-ons.

What I would suggest is first ensuring your Thunderdbird client is up to date (so, version 31+).

Then, remove the connection to your Google Calendar in Thunderbird (i.e. delete it in Thunderbird).

Then, uninstall the Lightning, and, Provider for Google Calendar add-ons from Thunderbird, restarting Thunderbird as and when you are prompted. This will get you to a clean slate without either your Google Calendar nor any of the required add-ons being present.

Finally, add your Google Calendar back to Thunderbird using the following guide:

Thanks Dave. Yes my version of Thunderbird is 31.4 Just by chance the Google calendar entries are now showing in Thunderbird! However, this happens from time to time and then they disappear again! I'd like to go through the steps you've suggested to see if that makes the problem go away entirely. Can you please explain how to delete Google Calendar in Thunderbird? Many thanks

Simply right-click on the Google Calendar in question in Thunderbird, and delete it as per the attached image. Follow that up by removing the add-ons and otherwise proceeding with the rest of the guide.

I can confirm that Google Calendar and Tasks sync should be stable (I have this running on four separate Thunderbird installs across Ubuntu and Windows.)

Thanks so much Dave...I'll give all of that a go now! I really appreciate your help

Just to clarify, I can confirm that I originally saw the behaviour you described in your initial post, and around two months ago this was also confirmed by the add-on developer. A new add-on version was released which apparently fixed the problem (and also added Google Tasks sync and a much simplified setup into the bargain), but I found that simply updating the existing add-ons in Thunderbird resulted in the calendar (events) disappearing from time to time.

Deleting the calendar, and add-ons, and re-running the entire setup nailed it, and since doing that it's been absolutely stable.

Any update to this at all? Is your client now stable?
