Is it possible to stop T-bird v60 update reminder?

I am running T-bird v60.9 on an old Mac with OS 10.9. I know it's hard to believe, but I do not want to update to v68 until an annoying issue with the Calendar is fixed (if it's ever fixed). Can I stop the "Wouldn't you like to update" dialog from popping up every day? Don't worry, I am running T-bird 68 (with the broken Calendar) on a newer Mac, so I'm not totally in the woods.

T-bird 60 Calendar automatically switches to (shows) the current day and date, every day, at the top of the right sidebar. T-bird 68 calendar never switches. I posted about this issue, but the only reply was "Yes, that's correct." You probably would put the issue at the bottom of any list of importance, but it is annoying for an old person like me who honestly cannot remember the date.

You never posted back to say whether reinstalling Lightning helped or whether you never tried reinstalling Lightning and decided to wait until fix.

However, there are several reports about the problem with the Date still showing the previous day when computer wakes up and requires a restart of Thunderbird in order to fix.

Hi, sorry, yes, I re-installed Lightning. I waited until the next day, but the date didn't change. I take some comfort from the fact that others have reported the same issue.

and the problem with shutting down your computer for the night instead of putting it to sleep is? Long experience with computers makes me shie away from sleep, it is a great way for odd electronic artifacts to cause instability and issues. Apple love it, but there appear to more and more folks with iphone issues for example that are fixed by a simple restart.

I appreciate your feedback. I’m sorry if Mozilla is bothered by my inquiry. I stated that the issue with Thunderbird is “annoying.” Perhaps I should have said “mildly annoying” or “puzzling.” It certainly is not important, and, in fact, one need not restart T-bird to display the current date. It is only necessary to click on the small circle next to the displayed date for it to be updated.

Apple used to recommend sleep instead of shutting down because there was a group of Unix maintenance routines programmed to run in the wee hours. If one always shut down beforehand, those maintenance scripts never ran. I do not know whether that Unix maintenance was actually important or whether it is still used.

I agree that odd electronic artifacts may cause instability and issues if one does not restart a computer, at least occasionally. However, if odd behavior occurs, then I reboot. I don’t have an iPhone, and I don’t recall my laptop (OS 10.9) or Mac minis (OS 10.12 and 10.15) behaving oddly more than a once or twice a year.

This has nothing to do with Mozilla - it's along story, but Thunderbird is virtually totally independent. People who post comments and try to help others are just other Thunderbird users offering their time freely in a voluntary unpaid capacity to help other Thunderbird users.

But, it is a genuine bug in Thunderbird which unfortunately seems to be effecting you and if you update Thunderbird and still experience the bug, then it is easier to exit Thunderbird each night and restart in the morning. Then you would never experience the problem.

I, like Matt, exit Thunderbird by default anyway, but can appreciate it would a be a change in habit for yourself and many others which you may or may not want to persue. At least the choice is available and it would allow you to update Thunderbird. I'm hoping the bug guys can get to grips with it because as you say, does not stop the use of Thunderbird, but it is annoying.

Thank you, yes, I understand. I've donated money to Thunderbird's development because it is the best email client around and I am grateful for the dedication of volunteers. Perhaps the 'bug' will mysteriously disappear with a future release.

I noticed in the Release Notes for T-bird 68.9

fixed Calendar: Today Pane updated prior to loading all data

I had great hopes that the lack of automatically updating the day/date had been corrected. But alas, it still does not work on my Mac. Perhaps the fix applied only to the PC version because the bugzilla entry referred only to PC. Or perhaps the fix was for something else.
