Can not view inbox or other folders in Thunderbird without opening new tab
I can not view my inbox or any of the folders under it on Mozilla Thunderbird. If I right click and open in a new tab I can see everything OK but from the home screen if I try to open a folder from there the application sits and does nothing. Also from the home screen if I click read messages or write a new message nothing else happens.
I am using the latest release of Thunderbird on Windows 7.

Sounds like what some other users are seeing
1. open tools | addons | extensions and remove Lightning/calendar addon 1a. if you can't get to addons, then start thunderbird in safe mode https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode and try again) 1b. if you still can't get to addons, reinstall thunderbird from http://getthunderbird.com/ 2. restart thunderbird 3. reinstall Lightning/calendar addon - if you need the functionality
