What is the exact error message?

Please be more specific about 'that new feature' and what you customized.

I did not customize anything. Selecting a msg to resend generates the following error using the original or changed address/

The error mess is in a popup box -- << Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail: the return mail address was invalid. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again. >>

A new msg in the compose window has an 'customized from address' option under the dropdown Option menu. It is grayed out for a resend.

What does "resend" mean?

Forward? As inline or as attachment? Reply? Redirect?

I note that it's complaining about your address not those you're sending to.

I overlooked "Edit as new message".

I think this option has become a bit contentious as by default it sends the message on as if from the original sender, and in most case, I'm not entitled to send using that identity.

I much prefer to do this kind of resend explicitly with the Mail Redirect add-on.

Resend is not any of the items you suggest -- display a msg and then use cntl-e. That copies the msg into a new compose window.

It is that msg that generates the error. Changing the from addy does not help.

Right-click on a message in the Sent folder - 'Edit as new' opens the message in a new compose window with the correct sender email address in the From: field.

Right-click on a message in the Inbox folder - 'Edit as new' opens the message in a new compose window with the original sender email address in the From: field. I have no idea why anyone would want to do this with received messages. If you want to do this you'd need to correct the From: address.

Yes, ctrl+e == Edit as new. I have never seen it referred to as "resend".

@christ1, I agree. It seems to be useful only with one's own messages; using it on a received message seems somewhat inappropriate. And yes of course, it falls to the user to make sure there is an relevant address in the "from" box.

To try to clarify. It should not matter which folder the msg is in for cntl-e creates a new compose window with the original msg text and some other fields filled in. One can change the from and to fields as appropriate. Pls note one can have a msg one sent in the inbox from, say, another device.

The important fact is that no matter who the original sender was or if it is changed the msg is rejected by the mail server!

I will hypnotize that some other field is messed up. It also seems to have occurred about the time the 'customize sender' option was introduced.

I don't not know how to examine other fields since cntl-U is not yet functional for an unsent msg.

'Edit as new' should not be a valid command for received messages, for the reasons stated: it assigns the original sender as if it's a valid sending address (for you). 'Forward' is probably what most people intend when they select 'Edit as new' on a received message. If someone wants to 'plagiarize' a received message and not have Fwd. displayed, the program should at least insert the default identity in the From: and leave the To: blank.

To reduce(?) the confusion, perhaps 'Edit as new' should be renamed 'Resend as new' and only be valid for messages in the Sent folder.

Msg can be in any folder. Not only can one send to ones self but one can collect to and from in a single folder.

Yes, meant to say any message sent by any identity (Sent folder is simplest case).
