Cannot Activate Citrix Receiver Plugin

more options

I have installed the latest Citrix Receiver plugin from citrix.com, however Firefox does not recognize it. I can get logged in to our storefront server, but when I click to launch the XenApp desktop, FF opens a new tab and goes nowhere. I do not find the Citrix Receiver plugin in the addons manager.

If you check on disk, is the file there in that folder (the folder indicated under the registry key)?

Hi RickWarren, could you check the permission for that plugin? It should be on the Add-ons page in the Plugins list. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Then check the list on the right side for Citrix plugins and you can adjust the permission level:

  • Ask to Activate - sites need individual permission to use this plugin
  • Always Activate - sites can use this plugin without individual permission
  • Never Activate - plugin disabled

With Ask to Activate, when you visit a site that wants to use a plugin, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and usually (but not always) one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

The plugin notification icon in the address bar typically looks like a small, dark gray Lego block. When the page wants to use a blocked plugin, the icon turns red to alert you to the concern.

If you see a good reason for the site to use the plugin, and the site looks trustworthy, you can go ahead and click the notification icon in the address bar to allow it. You can trust the site for the time being or permanently.

But some pages use plugins (especially Flash) only for tracking or playing ads, so if you don't see an immediate need for it, feel free to ignore the notification! It will just sit there in case you want to use it later.

Hi J Thanks for looking at this - I do not see the Citrix plug in there, although I have installed (and re-installed) it several times. Please see attached screen shots... Rick

It's puzzling because in the right column next to your question, Question Details > More System Details, your plugins list is much longer. What if you check my plugin lister page -- does it show the Citrix plugins?

Here is what the Addons list looks like now. I originally submitted the question from a different computer, maybe that is the difference?

Yes, big difference. So your Firefox is discovering OTHER new plugins as you install them, but still not finding Citrix? Usually it's all or nothing with seeing newly installed plugins, so I am not sure what is going wrong there.

I just tested on Windows 7 and the plugins showed up right away. On the internal about:plugins page, it shows this information:

Citrix Receiver File: npicaN.dll Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\ICA Client\npicaN.dll Version: 14.5.0.10018 State: Enabled Citrix Receiver Plugin (Win32)

In the Windows Registry, it's listed under this key, which is how Firefox should be finding it: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins\@Citrix.com/npican

I wonder if this is a Windows 10 thing, or some permissions issue??

I don't find the Citrix plugin on the FF about:plugins page. It does show up in the registry key as you mentioned
