Firefox 3.6 is the latest major version of Mozilla Firefox which was released on January 21st, 2010. This article describes how to upgrade to Firefox 3.6.
- When you upgrade, your existing information such as bookmarks and passwords will be preserved. To make sure that none of your information is lost, see Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.
- Some of your add-ons may not work after upgrading to Firefox 3.6. They can be re-enabled when their authors update them for compatibility with Firefox 3.6. For more information, see Re-enable add-ons that were disabled when updating Firefox.

Upgrading from Firefox 3.0.x or 3.5.x
If you use your Linux distribution's packaged version of Firefox, you will need wait for an updated package to be released to its package repository.
If you installed Firefox manually (without using your distribution's package manager)To upgrade to Firefox 3.6, you need to be using the latest update to Firefox 3.0 or 3.5:
- Open the menu and click . If there is an update available, follow the instructions in the Software Update window to download and install it. You will need to restart Firefox after updating.
- Once you have the latest Firefox 3.0 or 3.5 update, use > again, to upgrade to Firefox 3.6.

What's new in Firefox 3.6?
Most changes in Firefox 3.6 are improvements to stability and performance.
- (Firefox 3.6.4) Plugins are loaded separately from Firefox, allowing Firefox to stay open if a plugin crashes. For more information, see Send plugin crash reports to help Mozilla improve Firefox.
- Changes were made that prevent other programs from adding their own toolbar to Firefox without your permission.
- You can now change Firefox's appearance with a single click, with built in support for Personas. For more information, see Use themes to change the look of Firefox.
- Firefox 3.6 will alert you about out of date and insecure plugins. For more information, see Some plugins used by this page are out of date.
- The menu now contains a item, which will provide you with information useful for troubleshooting problems with Firefox. For more information, see Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues.
- Form autocomplete now lists items in order based on a combination of frequency and recentness.
- Tabs opened from links appear next to the current tab. To revert this behavior, see New tabs do not appear to the right of the last tab.
- You may hide the Menu bar by opening the , selecting , and then clicking . After hiding the Menu bar, you can display it by pressing Alt.
- Full Screen mode is now available. To turn on Full Screen mode, open and then select .
- You can now view Ogg/Theora videos in full screen.
- There is now a toolbar button for Full Screen mode. See Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.
- In the OptionsPreferences window, the Main panel has been renamed to the General panel.
- The "Enable Java" checkbox has been removed from the Content panel. You can enable and disable Java using the Add-ons window.
- Private browsing also removes TEMP files.
