How do I set my contacts in my address book according to priority so that when the contact sends me an email I can immediately identify if it is important?
I use Thunderbird for work emails. However I receive a lot of emails each day. How can I set my contacts in my address book up according to rank of importance? I want to be able to see which emails are possibly very important, and which ones are possibly standard before actually reading them. The idea is to save time by addressing the important emails first before reading through all of them first.
How can I go about this?

I'd suggest organizing your Contacts into different address books, and then use a filter to identify which address book a sender's address appears in, and assign a tag accordingly.
filter #1 if from is in my "Important People" address book
apply "Important" tag
filter#2 if from is in my "Less Important People" address book
apply "Less Important" tag
…etc
Or you could just write several filters applying tags according to individual sender addresses. It depends on just how many people you have in each category. filter #1 Match any…
if from is… if from is… if from is… etc…
apply "Important" tag
filter #2 Match any…
if from is… if from is… if from is… etc…
apply "Less Important" tag
I think moving Contacts from one address book to another might be less error prone than editing filter rules.
As an alternative to tagging, Saved Searches are another way to collate similar messages. A Saved Search could be set up to collect all your messages from Important senders into a single virtual folder, using either of the approaches above.
