The sites which I am unable to access are unquestionably authentic and have up-to-date certificates - they are banking sites, credit card, utility companies, etc. I am able to access them on Firefox on my kid's computer, but not my own. Any help would be appreciated.

In most cases, it's either your Anti-Virus's HTTPS scan that is passing a certificate incorrectly or you have malware on your computer trying to steak your credentials.

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free and the program JRT for their site and run those to be sure.

If the certificate is not trusted (SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER) then click "Copy text to clipboard" and paste the base64 encoded certificate chain text in a reply.
