I used to be able to open a new tab directly to Google. Since updating, the new tab states 'Server Not Found' even though the original tab is working fine, so the server is in fact not only found but working in Firefox: this statement shows that even Firefox can't work with Firefox settings! The tab addins don't work in Android. I locked updating on my PC because each update broke things. It would appear the same problems exist on the Android version too. Have Firefox not heard of beta testing? Can I lock Android updating too? If Firefox have broken it and can't repair it then it's time to jump ship. Chrome and Samsung Internet have no issue with the server.

Hi Les

When opening Firefox for Android or when starting a new tab, you can search directly with Google from the address bar.

On my desktop you can and on the previous version of Firefox for android you could: however, as stated, I do not get an automated connection to Google, so I do not get the ability to use the address bar to search. In fact I can get no connection on the additional tab when Firefox claims the "Server Is Not Found". It then asks you to check the address www.google.co.uk for typing errors, which of course don't exist as the primary tab connects to Google each and every time. The address bar does show www.google.co.uk (correctly typed), but includes /no internet-connection-intercept.lp?url=www.google.co.uk/ which must come from a Firefox setting or interrupt. With no apparent internet connection Firefox doesn't continue to the Google website.

The search including bookmarks happens regardless if whether you are using Google.

If you open the menu and select Settings, is bookmarks listed as a search option (and is it turned on)?

I have no bookmarks set. In the search settings Google is the only one and set to default.

I don't think this could be the problem as from my previous description Google is already set and appears in the address bar.
