Thunderbird version 78.2.1 - Can NOT setup primary email address...

more options

I am having huge problem setting up an existing AT&T email account that I have had for many years. I have the most current Thunderbird version (78.2.1), but it will not load my primary account. Thunderbird loaded my sub account without any issues. Both of my email accounts are the old Southwestern Bell "sbcglobal.net" accounts.

I have used several different server addresses, but nothing works.

IN - pop.mail.yahoo.com OUT - smtp.mail.yahoo.com

IN - pop.att.yahoo.com OUT - SMTP.att.yahoo.com

IN - inbound.att.net OUT - outbound.att.net

The inbound.att.net & outbound.att.net servers work fine for my sub account, but not my primary.

I also restored an older (2 mo.) account using MOZBACKUP, but still won't work. My mail folders are there, but will not open in Thunderbird.

I can log into ATT.com, ATT.net & Yahoo.com and retrieve my mail, but not with Thunderbird on my desktop. I talked to a technician at AT&T, but he couldn't help me.

I have added some screenshots, too, if that will help.

Thanks in advance!

You could remove the Global Inbox and recreate it if necessary:

Unified Folder view is another option.

Are you using a secure mail key instead of the regular account password?

Your primary ATT password won't work. You need to use a Secure Mail Key in Thunderbird. See https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1240308 and stick to the settings given here https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1010523/

Update: Sorry sfhowes, saw your post after I posted.

Hi sfhowes,

Yes, I created a secure key in October of last year. I also created a new one yesterday, but that did not help, either.

Thunderbird is also only showing "Local Folders" when I open my mail, but is shows my primary, sub account & Local Folders in the "Account Settings" page. I have attached a couple of screenshots.

Thank you!

Looks like you're using a global inbox for the two accounts.

Hi Stans,

It normally shows my primary account at the top, my secondary account below that and Local Folders on the bottom. All of this happened when I downloaded the newest version (78.2.1).

My Inbox normally looks like the picture attached from the Account Settings page, except it has my the sub folders beneath each account.

Thanks.

I wonder if some of these problems were caused by installing TB 78 and opening a profile used by 68. There are good reasons why auto-updates from 68 to 78 have not yet been deployed. I would recommend creating a new profile with 78 (Help/Troubleshooting, about:profiles), adding your POP accounts with secure mail keys, and seeing if they work correctly. If they do, mail, address books and other data can be transferred from the old profile.

sfhowes,

I just uninstalled 78.2.1 and reinstalled an older version... it worked. I can access all of my emails, but they're all downloading into the "Local Folder". The individual accounts are still not showing up in the application. Weird!

Thanks!

sfhowes,

That did it! If you were in Houston, TX, I'd take you to dinner!

Thank you for your help!
