Side toolbar disappeared after sync now bookmarks are missing
I am currently working on 2 computers, both with firefox installed and logged in. I believe sync was turned on. I have since turned it off since it seems to be useless.
I had bookmarks in the toolbar that was on the left side of the browser and not the top bar. I backed up my bookmarks on my main machine. All of the sudden the toolbar disappeared. When I try to re-add the bookmark toolbar back, it only appears at the top of the page. It appears that the side toolbar option no longer exists. I tried restoring a past backup of the bookmarks because they are missing. I had a lot of bookmarks in folders and a lot of bookmarks that are not in folders. Only the bookmarks that are in folders were restored. All bookmarks that were not in folders must not have been backed up. It seems like this particular scenario wasn't tested? Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I lost almost everything I had. Thanks.

You can toggle the bookmarks sidebar via the "Ctrl+B" keyboard shortcut.
Obviously you did not read the entire post. You apparently missed the fact that ALL of my bookmarks that were NOT in a folder are missing.
You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:
You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
- hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
- press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Settings).
"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:
- Settings -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"
"Clear the Cache":
- Settings -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> [X] Cached Web Content -> Clear
Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
