I downlaoded FF5 and it didn't load. Now it tells me that a previous FF needs to be initialized and I must restart my PC. I tried that and it doesn't help. How can I break this cycle and get a clean download?
I tried to download FF5. Everything seemed to go fine when I executed the download file. Then I got the response that I needed to reboot the system to finish the install. I have tried that several times, and every time I try to launch FF5 I get the same message, but no FF5!!! SO NOW WHAT DO I DO? I tried to download FF6 and still get that bloody message.

Check in task manager and check for firefox.exe in task manager. Or install firefox by changing the destination folder.

The program must close to allow a previous installation attempt to complete
Check and tell if its working.
mha007; I tried the method you pointed me to. The result was no files named xpicleanup.dat. So I am still stumped. Is there anything else I can try?
Case in point why I despise windows standard add/remove as it leaves files & registry settings behind. I use a program called REVO Uninstaller which basically is a third party uninstaller. How it works is it runs your standard built in uninstaller then once that is completed it will scan your PC for leftover files & registry settings. You would be amazed at how much is left behind that windows said it supposedly took off. The link to REVO is below, give it a try & I am fairly certain it will solve your problem/issue.

firefox.exe won't show under applications from the task manager, rather it shows under processes tab from the task manager, from which it must be selected and end process selected.

I did it! Just as you said, I created a new folder and downloaded FF6 into it. It loaded, picked up my preferences, and launched with no problem. Thanks for the help. And for teaching me a new trick.
