Problem: I can't move messages from one specific folder to another. This used to work.

Background: I have an old account, one for which the server died. I still have local copies of messages. I want to move to the a folder for a new server. I started moving these old messages.

How I Broke It: I abuse Thunderbird, I know this. I copied up to the new server 19,633 messages with no problem other than it was slow. Each message seemed to stop to look for the old server, I suppose to update the no longer existing server. But now it won't let me move any messages from that local folder. It looks like I broke that big local inbox. I can't seem to move the other 62,050 messages.

Environment: I currently have the server name set to something non-existent. I am running 128.6.0esr on Debian 13 on an AMD Framework 13.

Question: Does anyone know how to fix this?

Following a switch off and restart triggered I think by a Windows update, Thunderbird is not displaying any messages in my Inbox, though it is showing the number of messages in the Inbox title bar. 'Drafts' and 'Sent' all display correctly, but the 'Inbox' is blank with a grey icon of an envelope and the statement: "No message found".

    I am an IT novice.  I looked on the 'help' pages.  I have checked that no filters are set.  I have right-clicked on the 'Inbox' title to display the menu with 'properties' at the bottom.  I have clicked on that to bring up the dialog box with the "Repair" icon.  It shows 'Inbox' in the 'Name' box but I note that the 'Location' box is blank.  Presumably it should not be.  Presumably it should show either the location of locally stored messages on my hard drive, or the location of the messages on the email server.  I am not sure which.
    I have found the directory on my hard drive where I believe the messages are stored locally.  The size of the file suggests to me that they are all there.  The periodic 'Checking for new messages' is happening, but nothing is displaying, though a check via webmail shows that new messages are arriving on the server.
    What should I do to get my Inbox to display correctly?  With many thanks, Iain

"Nothing happens here" after the Microsoft OS install Thunderbird stopped working. I had no menu bar but it did download messages. I reinstalled Thunderbird and it installed Outlook then Thunderbird. I have a menu bar but none of the tasks is accessible. It downloads messages but I cannot open, delete or move them. I need to go to task manger to close the app. When I go there, there are multiple tasks for Thunderbird. Tried a shift start but I could not even see the inbox after deselecting addons. Just the menu bar and the rest is a blank page.

Tried a screen shot but this does not work.

I have used Thunderbird without a hitch in the US, Canada and the Caribbean for years and get my emails on my computer (PC) and my IPhone. For the last 3 days, since I have been in Antigua when I try to download my emails from my host Network Solutions into Thunderbird the connection is refused. I still get my emails on my IPhone and I have been able to forward an email stored on Thunderbird to my husband. I have no idea what the problem is and would appreciate any help. I've searched this problem a number of times and not come up with a solution. I've been a Thunderbird user for decades and this is a new problem to me.

I have 3 email accounts in Thunderbird. One of the three is very old and has dozens of subfolders with old message storage. The other two have one or two subfolders at the most. All 3 accounts seem to have this same problem.

Ninety % of the time all messages download and appear in their inboxes just fine. But sometimes I'll get downloading X-number of messages in the bottom left corner of Thunderbird but nothing shows up in any of the inboxes. I check all TRASH and JUNK folders and they are all empty (I used EMPTY TRASH ON EXIT as a setting in all accounts to empty the TRASH folder).

If I go to the online servers for these three accounts no messages show up there that haven't already been downloaded to my inbox and seen by me. So it would appear there actually were no new messages to download even though Thunderbird indicated there were.

A few weeks ago I searched out and found instructions for using the REPAIR FOLDER feature and ran that on the inboxes. On one account 3 old messages I don't think I'd seen did indeed appear. But use of the REPAIR FOLDER feature since then has had no effect at all.

I use JUNK settings but rarely see anything show up in my JUNK boxes. Perhaps that's a clue?

Can anyone enlighten me on what is happening?

Please tell me how I can remove this message. I have never seen it before and now I cannot read e-mails after 8/2/25 (I have been away for a few days).

I have tried to send myself a test message today but it will not go. I have tried cleaning out my mail server mailboxes but this has no effect. Running anti-virus software has no effect either.

I'm searching for a possiblity to assign a task to a user, like it is possible for an event. According to RFC 5545 this should be possible for VTODO however in the GUI the "Attendee" field is missing. Is this an intended situation?

Change request. Hi, With Thunderbird for Windows I can free-type a From: address that is different from the account email address, and I would like to do this on the Android version too. For the avoidance of doubt, I don't want to use another account's email address, I want to free-type whatever I choose.

For example Yahoo allows me to create up to 500 email aliases in the form alias-anyword@yahoo.com

As this feature has always been available on the desktop version, is it something you could incorporate on Android?

I have not found a way to print an email from Thunderbird for Android. There are several occasions when that is important for me. Now I have to leave Thunderbird and log into a web client to be able to print a copy of an email.

I have always found being able to archive messages in thunderbird very useful whether by year or to a specifically created folder, eg " committee business".

  I am finding this impossible in thunderbird for android. How do I create specific new folders / archives. I am sorry if I am missing something obvious. Thank you for your help

Is there any way to get Thunderbird to show ICS files? Right now it just shows the contents as unusable trash in the email body.

Before anyone says it, toggling 'Display attachments inline' doesn't do anything. Enabling a calendar in Thunderbird allows the 'accept' etc buttons, but then I have to deal with the headache of a calendar in Thunderbird and still doesn't show the ICS file so I can use it with my actual calendar app.

I am having problems with Thunderbird not downloading all messages from my icloud account.

It has only download back to November 2024 but I have emails back to 2012. (I have 10000+ emails as I keep them all as an effective records database.

I have adjusted the Thunderbird settings to include all emails of any size and date and set the number of emails to all. My settings are the same as my desktop Thunderbird.

I am running the latest version 8.2.

Does anyone have a solution?

Hello, We have problem with sending and receiving e-mails. Sometimes Thunderbird just stops receiving e-mails. We can send messages but they can be saved only in local folder. In browser e-mails arrive and we can send them without any problems so it has to be some problem with Thunderbird. We were trying a lot of solutions, but only one works - creating new profile. It is very time-consuming solution, because we have to copy all e-mails, contacts, user settings, etc and we have to create a new profile couple times in a month... We were trying to off our antyvirus, forget password, etc. Probably there is some problem with certificates, but we do not know how to fix it. We use IMAP. Let me know what we can do to solve this problem, because creating new profiles is too tiring... :(
