Why have my STG backup files started to appear on my desktop?

I have noticed a new folder has appeared on my desktop - out of the blue - labelled "STG-backups-FF-81.0.1" If I delete it, it is simply replaced by another one at some point, later on. I assume this folder is created by Firefox and the back-up file information is saved in it automatically. Surely the folder should be in a different location? Has anyone any ideas on where this is supposed to be, and how to get Firefox to revert to saving the files in it in the correct place?

Hmm, what does STG stand for?

If it's an add-on, an extension with download permission can save in whatever you have set as your default download folder in Firefox. Is it possible your downloads are set to save to your desktop? This article has more info on that setting:

Thanks very much both! Spot on, jscher2000; and yes, cor-el, it is Simple Tab Groups. I installed the extension recently, and for convenience my downloads are set to go to my desktop by default. An old habit! I just didn't put 2 & 2 together! Much appreciated.
