what is the point of being able to have the web search on the home screen when you cannot type into it. It goes into the bar at the top

Also,new tabs can only be default FF or blank. They cannot be custom and the same as a customised home page

whoever updates FF seem to go out of their way to make things difficult

For your first question open about:config and search for 'handoff'. Change the preference to false. browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar
