JAWS does not vocalize superscripts in FF but it does in IE - this is important for my math courses

I'm working on a calculus course and JAWS is not vocalizing superscripts when viewed with FF when it works correctly with IE. I can't figure out why this would be so. Is there some setting in FF or a UA overrride that can be applied? Superscripts are rather important in math and the difference between "x two" and "x superscript two" can make or break how you answer a question.
