The latest version of Firefox is causing problems, and reloads with my tabs. Plugin-container.exe is bloated. Can you undo what you did?

The most recent update of Firefox is causing problems with my tabs. If I am on Tab A, and click on Tab B, but later want to click back to Tab A, it will reload Tab A, which is slowing me down. Also Plugin-Container.exe tends to get bloated.

What is going on?

hi, so it appears that you are part of the cohort that got the multi-process architecture of the browser enabled: https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2016/08/02/whats-next-for-multi-process-firefox/ web content will run in a separate process from the ui now, which is happening in the plugin-container.exe (so it is normal that it uses more resources now).

What about the whole tab reloading thing most times I switch between tabs? I check my work email in Tab A. Check my personal email in Tab B. Go back to Tab A to follow up, and have to wait 30 seconds to a minute for the tab to reset. How is this a good thing? Can I get it back to the way it was before?

Do you want to try turning it off?

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste tabs.r and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.tabs.remote.autostart preference to switch the value from true to false

Does that work, or does it stay stuck on true? I don't think it actually would take effect until the next time you start Firefox.

thanks for following up. this is certainly no intended behaviour but sounds more like a bug to me, so i've filed bug 1297496 about the issue, so you might want to follow along there as well. could you also tell us what mail providers you were using while switching between tabs when they got stuck? thanks for your patience & i hope we can fix the issue together...
