How to prevent Thunderbird from sending valid INBOX messages to TRASH upon receipt?
Valid sender messages get in the TRASH folder instead of the INBOX folder and have to manually move them to the INBOX every time. It is quite annoying. How can I tell Thunderbird Those are accepted messages and NOT trash?
Thanks for any advise, Taruno taruno@coastside.net

Usually, Junk/Spam messages go to the 'Junk' or 'Spam' folder and not the 'Trash' folder unless you have set this up.
This could be set up in the accounts 'Junk Settings', so all junk goes directly to 'Trash'. It could also be due a Message Filter you have created which detects a specific condition in an email and directs that email to the 'Trash' folder. If it is being caused by a 'Message Filter', is that filter set up to run before or after Junk Classification?
If the email address is in one of your address books :
Have set up the accounts 'Junk Settings' to recognise that address book as a white list?
Thanks, Toad-Hall! But my problem is that GOOD messages appear in the TRASH folder when downloaded, instead of in the INBOX, included my wife's and two groups that are also in my Thunderbird address book. There are no filters for spam mail in my Thunderbird, those are in my server @coastside.net and they never classify them as Junk, while real junk (about 30 per day) goes to their Spam folder, consistently. I'm at odds with this problem, it is irritating, and Mozilla doesn't seem to have a way to address it. Other than that I am very happy with their software! Let's see if some other colleague can come up with a solution... Thanks for trying, I really appreciate your advise , but it is not the case of filters: I haven't set any since I installed T.B. several years ago. Taruno
What have you got set up in the Account Settings 'Junk Settings' ?
- Right click on mail account name in FolderPane and select 'Settings'
- Select 'Junk Settings'
- Could you post an image showing current setup, so the forum understands the setup.
Is the problem occuring in a POP or IMAP mail account?
If this is an imap account, is Thunderbird moving them or is Thunderbird just showing you what has already occurred on the server?
In Thunderbird
- Menu icon > Activity Manager
- Does it say Moved X number of messages to Trash ?
YES! It says: Moved 3 messages from Inbox to Trash. Could I modify that setting?
Thanks, Toad-Hall! Taruno
Hi, Toad-Hall:
I took a screen shot of the original "Junk Settings" and other when I checked "CLIENTS" and "WORK", too.
What should I do next? Thanks, Taruno
I believe my account is POP (not sure because I only use it in my tower computer, not the laptop) Taruno
I also don't know how to put my reply right below the proper "Helpful Reply", so all of them are right here.
re :I believe my account is POP
The images show the 'Local Folders' Junk Settings not the pop mail account 'Junk Settings'.
- Please post image of pop mail account 'Junk Settings'.
Q: Do you see the pop mail account in the Folder Pane above the 'Local Folders' or have you set up the pop mail account as a deferred; commonly known as 'Global inbox', account? If Global Inbox then you would not see pop mail account in Folder Pane and all incoming mail would show up under 'Local Folders'. The answer you give determines what you do in the pop mail account 'Junk Settings'.
Also, please post image of the following settings: Menu icon > Options > Security > 'Junk' tab
