In the address bar, type about:crashes. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar

Select Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

Firefox does not use Active X. A plugin using that is for Internet Explorer, and will not work on Firefox. To use Flash with IE and Firefox, you need two different plugins, and they should not affect each other.

I uninstalled the Active X and seem to have solved the problem. I watched my video on PBS (which had been crashing about every 15-20 minutes) and it did not crash for length of video. This must have been the problem. I do not know how the X got installed. I never use IE. I noticed that it was installed on Sept. 14 which was when my crashing problems seem to start. Whenever my computer says that I need to update a program I do it. Is there anything I should be aware of that I am not? Thanks for all the help. When I was searching around FF support, I came across a crashing problem someone had and whoever answered it mentioned the Active X. It is kind of fun to be able to solve a computer problem and nice to know there are so many helpful people out there.

It’s very sad, but many of the software down-loaders / installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well. You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print. You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does. From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.

Thank you very much Fred for all the enlightening information. I always wondered why you were given options when installing a program. I thought only the very tech-smart people would use the manual option.

The ActiveX plugins only works on IE and not any other browsers including Firefox so it should have no affect. Just may be a coincidence.
