I have always been able to log into my doctors web site for medications & appointments, untill this week end. I am able to go into the main web site http://www.framlinghamsurgery.co.uk/, but then you have to go into the apponintment system where you log in & it hangs & buffers the the message comes up

The connection has timed out

The server at systmonline.tpp-uk.com is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I have spoken to my doctors to see if they have a problem with there web site, no is the answer to that. This has occurred since firefox updated on saturday.

I am now unable to order my medication because of this problem, or make appointments with my doctors.

I have been looking through your help pages & made adjustments to dns etc, but nothing works.

I,m too ill to be sorting this out _____ Please help I have never had a problem before logging into my doctors.

Since this sounds like an urgent requirement, have you tried using either the Microsoft Edge browser (new on Windows 10) or Internet Explorer with the site?

And then once you've met your immediate needs...

Is this the only site that mentions taking too long to connect?

Did you try "the usual"? By which I mean:

If a site is generally known to work in Firefox, these are general suggestions to try when it stops working:

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Ctrl+r to check progress.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, the current site should be pre-filled in the search box at the top of the dialog so you can remove that site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Testing in Firefox's Safe Mode: In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement? (More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode)

Hi Many thanks for your help I have carried out all the above in that order that you gave me, However none of the above worked. even in safe mode. I have notice that since firefox updated to 55.0.2 when you go into my doctors log in part of the web site, it tells you thats its an un- secured site, even if you change the permissions, it still will not let you into the site, the permissions dont go high - lighted now. i have been working on this problems for 3 days now, if I am unable to sort it out by tomorrow, I will have to remove firefox & try something else. This beats me its worked fine for the past 2 plus years & doesnt work when I really need it. If you can think of any thing else I would be most gratefull, I,m really not well enough to be fiddling around with this .

Why wait until tomorrow to try a different browser? Your computer comes with Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.

I can't access the appointment site in either Firefox or IE from here, I get timeouts in both browsers for the links to the appointment site that I see here: http://www.framlinghamsurgery.co.uk/page1.aspx?p=2&t=1

You may want to phone them and ask what's going on: http://www.framlinghamsurgery.co.uk/contact1.aspx

I bolded the part I need more information on. What is the address of the starting page for that process?

Did the problem start when you upgraded to Firefox v55?

Note: V55 has been giving users problems. Reinstall v54.

If you still want to downgrade, look under; I still want to downgrade. Click the Directory of other versions and languages link. Look for the directory of the version that you want. But, remember that old versions may have security issues.

There is security software like Avast, Kaspersky, BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connections and send their own certificate.
