Some users are reporting that their saved logins file -- named logins.json -- gets renamed to logins.json.corrupted. I saw a comment that this might be caused by Avast or AVG, but I don't know the details about that.

UPDATE: Update your AVG software to prevent future problems. See Fix passwords disappearing due to AVG security software. However, the below fix still might be needed.

One possible fix is to let Firefox try the file again and see whether it still works. There are a few steps involved, so here goes:

(1) Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder

First, call up the about:support page using any of these methods:

• "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
• (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
• type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, on the Profile Folder row, click the "Open Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

(2) Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

• "3-bar" menu button > Exit
• (menu bar) File > Exit

(3) Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then:

(A) If Firefox started a new logins.json file, right-click > Rename it to loginsNEW.json to get it out of the way

(B) Right-click logins.json.corrupt and click Copy

(C) Press Ctrl+v to paste -- Windows usually will create a file named logins.json - Copy.corrupt

(D) Right-click logins.json - Copy.corrupt and Rename to just logins.json

Start Firefox back up again and hopefully it will discover all the logins are in good shape and not really corrupted.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Do as it says and it works fine

But this morning it worked fine then when I turned on this afternoon I looked if the login.json was there and it was but when I started firefox no password listing it ha changed to login.json.corrupt

Repeated the solution and they are back again
