where are pictures stored
When pictures come in on an email where are they stored. And why do some of the pictures come in upside down?

Thunderbird is an email program and not an image editor. It may or may not understand orientation tags stored inside the image info if the image is not sent right side up.

Attachments of all kinds remain attached to the email and are in your profile with the email they are attached too. It is up to you to save them where you want them if you want them someplace else.
As for being upside down. That is how the person sending them sent them. Tell them to turn them over before sending.
Pictures received atached to a email received on my IPhone and Thunderbird are received differently. The IPhone pictures are fine while the Thunderbird pictures are upsidedown, sideways and some right. Same email.

What does "and are in your profile with the email they are attached too." mean?
It means that all you emails are stored in your profile folder. Unless you use the SAVE function and move a copy of the attachment someplace else, the attachments stay in your profile with the email they were delivered with.
To see where your profile folder is located go to the HELP menu and select Troubleshooting Information. There is a button to show the Profile Folder location there.
The info is coded. How do I make a copy of a photo from that?
No idea what you are talking about but it is unrelated to this solved posting. I suggest that you start your own thread and describe your problem for a possible solution.
When I go to "profile" and find the email that has the photo, it is in code (NUMBERS AND LETTERS). which I don't know how to convert to a picture.
