I had a problem where my user got corrupted and I had to create a new user. I fortunately had a backup of Thunderbird which was created by the ImportExport add-on. I was able to restore my Thunderbird but I must have not backed it up for a couple of months. I do have a backup of my PC that was created on 10/3/17. I can see the profile and folder that has my local folders in it. I have what I want in that folder. I can open the folder with notepad and see the emails. Is there an option with the ImportExport tool to restore that folder? I know there are several options with the tool, but I don't know which one to use. There are several import options that sound like they may restore the emails.

From what I have read it appears that with the ImportExport tool you can import a mbox file. I have found the file I want in a backup. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

Select a subfolder of Local Folders, or just Local Folders, then right-click, ImportExportTools/Import mbox file, and select the first option if you just have one or more mbox files that correspond to folders with no subfolders.

What I ended up doing is I have software that will do a backup of my user files weekly. I had a backup of the profile just before this started. I ended up importing that profile and I was whole again. I was nervous about doing that but it worked perfectly.

Just to make sure I understand. If I had not imported my profile I could selected the mbox file from my profile and imported that file?

If you import a mbox file do you right click on the folder where you want to import the mbox file?

Yes, you can manually import the entire profile or just specific mail folders. Right-click Local Folders or one of its subfolders; more instructions here. You've probably noticed that this add-on can export and import entire profiles, besides mail folders, and perform scheduled profile backups.
