Hello,

I have tried the other solutions listed for this issue but none of them seem to work. My profile folder for the older version of firefox is empty, and I don't find APPDATA or any .json files even when files are unhidden. I would be grateful if you could provide an alternative method for importing old bookmarks from an external hd to a new computer than runs Windows 8.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

Please try this: Open your current profile folder via Firefox Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder, exit Firefox, and delete places.sqlite into the Recycle Bin. Next, open the drive letter corresponding to the external HD (usually it would be listed after your current drives i.e. if your laptop has C and D drives, the attached external HD would start at E), browse to E:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles, open the folder inside, copy the places.sqlite into your current Firefox profile folder opened earlier via Firefox, and start Firefox.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. Unfortunately I do not appear to have a places.sqlite file in my old firefox folder. Do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you again.

The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and later Windows 7+ versions are hidden folders.

Thank you for your reply.

Even when "Show hidden files, folders or drives" is selected in my folder options I don't seem to find AppData and my old places.sqlite file. Any other suggestions?
