I have Firefox 13.0 and I am dead in the water...It freezes on every keystroke and every other function after 20 minutes.

The above question was asked June 29, 2012 and I was directed to a page that defined my problem. But I, nor a joint call with Comcast Tech Support @$100.00 per hour could not decipher your work around. I need better defined instructions to work through this issue with 13.0 if I am expected to remain a Firefox user. Interestingly enough, Comcast 6 years ago recommended Firefox and now they can't make sense of your "workaround" for a product that should be in beta test and not released to the public. I have spent several hundred dollars with Comcast over problems that were Firefox's. I am not happy...

I'm not sure what "workaround" you're referring to. If it's a support article here, can you reply with the link?

Also, have you tried the new Reset feature: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

? Workarounds ?
Note previously several comments made in another thread but not really any specific details given /questions/930184#answer-348599

Most users recommended downgrading to fx12, ( I did not even bother challenging those suggestions) others mention Flash 11.3 so I included a link to flash 11.3 crashes problems & Chris_llias advised the op of the previous thread to look at firefox hangs

Casey

I asked whether you are using an intranet in your business, with multiple connected computers, if so are you having problems with most of the computers ?

One thought I had was that as a business there would be a possibility you may be interested in Firefox ESR, but that would probably only be suitable if your business is large enough to have an IT department.

Another thought seeing that system information aside mentions XP 2005 is that Firefox 13 is only compatible with XP SP2 and above, so you should be all-right just, (but if you have older machines with XP not updated Firefox 13 will not work on them )

Did you try the to suggestions above, and also look at the article about Firefox hanging, did any of that help ?

If you had posted using Firefox instead of Chrome you would have been prompted to paste in the troubleshooting information from Firefox. IF you are still having problems that information may still be useful, and it will at least list some of the plugins that you may have installed. You can obtain it from Firefox and paste it into a reply using Chrome if that is easier for you. Presumably Chrome is working ok with no problems using the same machine and the same websites as were problematic on Firefox.

Use Firefox's menu Help -> Troubleshooting -> [Copy All to Clipboard] then paste it into a reply. When doing so you may wish to edit out the printer information it will make it shorter.

Casey,

I note you mentioned in the other thread

" .... Then after a week of frustration as videos are a major consideration with my blog, .... "

Do you mainly have problems when you have tabs present that contain video ?

Assuming you are using FlashPlayer, especially if you notice problems with video consider trying

  1. uninstall version 11.3 with Adobe's uninstaller,
  2. and downgrade to version 11.2 or 10.3 as explained in Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again.
  3. Please also state whether you use any RealPlayer software ?

@John99 and everyone else; Thank you all for your help. I thought this was a MFG Support site, not a user forum. I will be trying all these options in-between hotdogs and fireworks. I have completely un-installed Firefox 13 at this time. After a couple weeks of major frustration it is just a thing of beauty to hit a keystroke and have function simultaneously rather than wait while I shower and comeback to see if the character appeared on the screen. I do not lie... I appreciate your assistance with this matter.

I guess you are still using Chrome then.

Hope you get a chance to try Firefox again at some stage.

Enjoy the celebrations.

Firefox is free software, a lot of the support, and even some of the development work is done by the community. Firefox 13 has major issues with video still at the moment, but otherwise it is working well for most users.

If your problem is not related to Flash 11.3 it is highly likely to be something with your setup.

The Firefox paradox is

  • it is good, highly customisable and works with a lot of software extensions
  • and its biggest problem, it is used with a lot of third party software

(That's para-phrasing better known comments about Firefox from CEO M Baker)
