Previous post /questions/968512 ~J99

cor-el, your observation regarding the "shield" was correct. I opened the shield and disabled it which made the page go back to normal. Unfortunately, it only worked....temporarily. :(

The page is back to the way I showed in the picture I previously attached.

Also, I went into about:config and did what you suggested but that didn't work either.

I found some info on this site about Firefox blocking content and did what was suggested.

One was....There is a click on/off addon for disabling that. (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/toggle-mixed-active-content/).....didn't work.

I can implement any of the above referenced suggestions, but when I either refresh or log out and come back later, the page has been changed. I did contact eBay Classifieds to see if they can do anything on their end but I'm not holding my breath.

Chosen solution

Checked the eBay Classifieds page today. Shield is not there (not sure if that's really a good thing or not overall) but the page is normal. So I think the changing the content in about:config from true to false must have done the trick. So I would say the problem is solved....(***keeping my fingers crossed***)

Thank you all again for your help/suggestions. It's very much appreciated.  :)

Do you have any ad blocking software installed?

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • Open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Please report back soon.

If I understand the other thread correctly, eBay works as designed if you make an exception (click the shield icon and suspend protection), but this is temporary. This is how the feature is designed right now: there's no way, as far as I know, to save a permanent exception on a site-by-site basis.

While I was working on a script solution, it seemed that eBay actually has fixed the pages to use secure links, at least on the login page. If you reload bypassing cache, is it updated for you?

"Do you have any ad blocking software installed?"

I have Adblock Plus installed but I never had problems with it before. I only noticed the problem with eBay a few days back and I thought it might be due to some Microsoft updates I installed. But I did a system restore, reinstalled each update one at a time, checked each one after installation, and the page was fine. A day or so later the issued came up again.

I don't ever remember that shield being there. If it was there all this time I don't understand why I'm having issues with it now.

But I never had to click on that shield before. I don't ever even remember it being there.

Excuse my ignorance but I don't understand your question about bypassing cache.

Just as an update, I just went into about:config and changed the true to false on these two items as cor-el suggested in a previous reply:

security.mixed_content.block_active_content
security.mixed_content.block_display_content

It seems to be working right now but I'm not sure about tomorrow. So I'll leave this topic open until tomorrow. If everything is fine then, I consider the matter resolved.

Hi Tina_M, the shield went away for me while I was poking around the page and reloading it a few times.

To reload bypassing the cache: reload using Ctrl+Shift+r. Firefox will not use previously cached files from the site and will request everything fresh.

So when you were reloading you were using ctrl+shift+r and not the refresh button?

The reload button will check with the server on whether the page and any related files have been updated. It doesn't guarantee a full reload of every single part of the page. You need the Shift key for that.
