I've been using Mozilla for a long time. It's been nearly a year now since the videos stop flowing (but sound works normally) if I don't keep moving the mouse all the time. My son found a trick : He keeps the cursor out of the video frame, and presses twice the windows start button. After this, video flows normally too !. When I uprgaded to v.25 I noticed that now I have to move the cursor all the time otherwise mozilla freezes whatever I do, even open any page !. My configuration is : Windows 7 (64bit), Intel Core 2 Quad (Q6600), 4gb RAM, VGA : HD6800 (1gb) All drivers are up to date.

Thank you

hey, just to keep you updated - there is now a fix available for firefox 25, which should address the particular problem of pages not loading unless the mouse is moved.

if you have downgraded to firefox 24 to work around the issue, please go to firefox > options > advanced > update and turn automatic updates back on. then go to firefox > help > about firefox which should trigger the update to firefox 25.0.1. in case you need to download the setup file for firefox 25.0.1 separately you can do so from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/channel/#firefox

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

FirefoxSafeMode

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately the problem persists. There was not the least improvement when I entered in a safe mode.

Hi thamatho,

To help the team who are attempting a bug fix could you please try a couple of things and report back?

Please disable hardware acceleration and test to see if that solves the problem. Instructions here: Disable Hardware Acceleration

Also could you type about:support in the URL bar and hit enter, You will be taken to a troubleshooting page. Then please copy and paste the 'Graphics' section near the bottom into the reply box here.

That will help us identify the issue. Thanks.

In Firefox Safe Mode hardware acceleration is disabled, so it won't help to disable this feature intentionally.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

Hi eddyc Thanks for the response Acceleration is already disabled : no difference.

Thanks thamatho.

I've posed the information you provided to the logged bug (BugID 933733).

This will help them resolve the issue. I'll keep you updated here if there are any changes or any more questions.

Thanks.

Hi cor-el

Thank you for the response and suggestions. I've already tried :

- safe mode + networking : videos don't work but mouse problem stops
- disable acceleration : no improvement

A few minutes ago I got into creating a new profile. However, using this new profile has no difference concerning the problem.

Any other suggestions are welcomed. As you can see also eddyc deals with this problem and I sencierely thank you all. I love Motzilla and I really want to keep using it.

Thanx again Thanos

What kind of mouse driver make do you use and which mouse driver?

Does this still happen with a generic mouse driver or another mouse?

is the problem immediately reproducible? it would greatly help narrowing down the cause of this display issue if an advanced user affected by this could run the regression testing tool from http://harthur.github.io/mozregression/ in order to find out in which nightly version the bug first appeared.

since the regression apparently showed up sometime in version 25, this would be the command you need to run in the tool initially:

mozregression --good=2013-06-24 --bad=2013-08-05

then nightly versions of the browser from this range will be downloaded and opened automatically & lets you specify if the build is good (=bug free) or bad until the exact date of when the error first occurred is established.

thank you for your help!

This is unfortunately a known regression in firefox 25 that is affecting a small portion of users, for reference please refer to BugID 933733.

Your best option is probably to stay with Firefox 24 at the moment until the issue gets resolved...

Install an older version of Firefox

Someone will also post back to this thread when the bug is resolved.

hey eddyc

It seems that 25.0.1 has solved this problem. Now the mouse does not have to be so 'speedy Gonzalez' any more. However, the video stop problem that I had in the previous versions persist and only my son's trick will make videos flow properly. Anyway, a big improvement has occured with 25.0.1 and I want to thank everyone concerned with this problem.

Cheers

Hi thamatho,

I'm glad that 25.0.1 has solved at least a part of the issue. Since this thread is already quite long and it looks like there are actually two issues (although they seem similar) I suggest you start a new support question to focus on the issue that is still occurring.

You can ask a new question from here:
