Google tool bar is acting strange. It doesn't "fill in" when I type a partial search.

Using FF4 ... When I start typing a search in the Google tool bar and choices appear in the drop-down, I select one of the choices but they don't populate the search. For example, I start typing "holland am" and several choices appear in the dropdown including Holland America cruises. I select holland america cruises but the only thing that is populated in the search is the original holland am input. IE does not work like that and FF did not work that way before FF4.

Chosen solution

If you are talking about the Google Toolbar extension search bar, that is a fault with that extension in Fx 4.0RC that needs to be fixed by by the developer of that extension. Try using the down arrow key to scroll down to your choice in the drop-down and use Enter to select it - rather than clicking on the choice. Some users have reported that works.

Did not work for me, instead it takes me to www.google.com to start a new search.

Not for me either

I don't really understand your "solution". Far be it from me to defend Google, they haven't updated the toolbar in nearly two years. However, since the toolbar works well in IE, and in all previous versions of Firefox, but not in Firefox 4, then logic suggests that the problem is in Firefox 4. Now, it may be that Mozilla have decided with RC 4.0 to change the way Firefox works, but that's a different matter. I have reinstalled FF 3.6.16 and will stick with that until this apparent bug in FF 4 is fixed. Mozilla would do well to remember that the main strength of FF is in its support for 3rd-party extensions - maintaining that support is fundamental to the success of FF.

In my case with XP, if I click on a suggestion, nothing happens. If I highlight with the mouse & hit enter, it searches for whatever I had already typed. Using the down key+enter works.

Hi

Tried it and it doesn't work. Also FF4 doesn't give me the option to save when closing multiple tabs - why did they release this version with so many problems? Chrome or even ie8 are beginning to look more and more appealing

Thanks for the question and the solution. The "enter" trick worked for me on some searches, but not for others ! I would like to have the other way back! I agree that this is a FF 4 problem.
