History and bookmarks not showing when I click their menu items

If I click 'History' on the menu, I no longer get a drop down of my recently visited places, and 'Show All History' is also blank, although I can see 'Recently Closed Tabs' and 'Recently Closed Windows'.

Also, on opening a new tab, I used to see my most visited sites as large icons, with my recently visited places as icons underneath these.

I think this began happening around the time I updated to 65.0.1 Firefox also crashed just before this, so either could have caused the strange behaviour.

I have tried to restore the bookmarks using the Library toolbar, but the restore fails.

I hate losing my bookmarks and found history and the icons extremely useful. Please help me to get these back. Thanks.

First, let's open the Bookmarks Manager and see if everything is still there.

Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B.
