Transferred TB to a New Computer - Only Opens in Safe Mode
Good afternoon,
I have a new computer and installed TB on my new computer. I copied everything from C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird (12.7 GB) to the same place on my new computer.
On the new computer TB opens perfectly the first time. After that it does not open. A error window flashes by in the top computer but so quickly I can't read it. I filmed it with my phone and the error message is:
<window id=messengerWi ^ </p>
The error message is wider than the screen so truncates as above.
TB only opens now in Safe Mode. I've removed Lightning and Google Provider and all Themes. TB still will not open except in Safe mode.
The main difference now between the two versions is that TB on the old computer is in Light Mode with the Calendar's installed. On the new computer it is in dark mode and the toolbar is different.
Opening in safe mode, selecting "Disable all add-ons" highlights the "Make Changes and Restart" button but it doesn't work. Selecting "Reset Toolbars and Controls" allows a restart but the same error message appears and TB doesn't start.
The old computer is a Dell Latitude E6510 with 8 GB RAM and the new computer is a Dell Precision 7510 with 16 GB of RAM.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated. JB

To solve the problem I had to delete the TB install completely from the new computer including deleting the profile files. C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird and re-installed TB.
I had followed the instructions here to do the transfer the first time: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer
For the second attempt I used the importexporttools-ng tool to export and import the profile. Even though they have a warning saying to do a manual transfer it worked seamlessly. I highly recommend importexporttools-ng for moving from an old computer to a new computer.
Thank-you for your help! JB

Hello there We have read your message We try to help you.
Do not erase your old PC until you get the working version on your new PC.
When you enable safe mode on Thunderbird, it gives you a bypass of certain topics that may be installed on your computer machine. These include your addons and extensions, for example there will be a whole list so you can try to find out what could be the cause.

you have tried this okay no response was good.
One option is to delete old data on your new computer machine and try again.
Make sure that your new computer machine does not contain Thunderbird icons and is completely erased from them.before reinstalling the software.
Look closely for double software icons, this must not be present. And also not delete icones and still tried to start anyway.
please try to do this how to transfer it to another computer.

Mozbackup is outdated.
You can also try our add on to transport your data. https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools-ng/
Along with a regular new name installation of Thunderbird its latest release on your new computer machine.
Transfer your maps with the add-on.

Hello there again john.
As described in your report, it seems that functions do not work with Thunderbird in safe mode. (Buttons) That may seem like a crash.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-crashes Is this the same as with the safe mode feature for Firefox?
