I repeatedly get a popup "suggesting" that I update Yahoo. I have deliberately removed Yahoo from Firefox! Does anyone know what this scam is and how to stop it
I detest Yahoo in all its forms, and have removed it from Firefox any time it has intruded. I consider it to be nothing but a browser hijacker.
However, I repeatedly get this popup[ with the "suggestion" that I update Yahoo!
There is no "decline" button. Not even a simple "no, thanks." The window intrudes over the screen in any [program I open until I manually close it from the task bar.
Avast scans find no virus. Malwarebytes scans come back clean. Adware cleaner finds nothing.
What is this wretched thing, where does it come from, and how can I prevent it?

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>)<Shift> A)
In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove Yahoo Anything. Now do the same in the computers Programs Folder.
Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.
Nothing in either my add-ons or extensions refers to Yahoo. I delete anything I see that says "Yahoo." Don't even leave it as a search machine option.
Nothing Yahoo shows up in either Uninstall Programs or IOBit uninstaller. I'm looking at another site that says it's a "virus," but Avast scan show nothing. Neither does Malwarebytes or Adware Cleaner.
I'm wondering if it just pops up on certain pages when roll over something I don;t even see.
Hi, your screenshot suggests it isn't Firefox specific, so try doing a search in your PC's search box.
You can also try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
Note that not all removal programs will detect all malware, so you may need to run several or all of them.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

You can check in "Windows Control Panel > Programs" for recently installed programs to see if any suspicious (Yahoo) software shows up.
- Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Uninstall or change a program
- click the Installed column to sort by this heading
The only thing Yahoo that Firefox can come with is a simple Yahoo search engine if you have the en-US locale from www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/
I have removed that long since. I'm trying to figure out where this "update" comes rom, and am beginning to think the culprit may be Java updates. In trying to determine what proceeds these popups, it looks like a Java update is always there just a day or two earlier. But since I never accept any of the stuff that tries to bundle itself with Java, I'm still not certain.
